3 Reasons Why Blogging is Important


Welcome to a new year (even though we’re a month into it already). With each new year the past few years, I’ve determined to start blogging and start email broadcasts about a wide variety of topics. However, each year, too soon I discover it’s already December, and I haven’t done a thing.

And that’s unfair to you. Over the years I’ve accumulated a wealth of knowledge about print, design, web and marketing in general, information which can help you grow your business massively! I don’t claim to know everything, or have tried everything, but I do know I’m an ideas man. I love sitting down with people like you, who’re looking for ways to grow their business, and coming up with heaps of ideas to help, and then helping implement those ideas into their business.

I have to be honest though. I’ve known for a long time that blogging is good for you, good for my business and good for myself as a person, and I’d like to share three reasons why:

1. Blogging is a great way to help your clients

Blogs give you the opportunity to help a wide range of people, even before they’ve become your clients. It’s quick, and easy (this particular blog took me about 25 minutes to write) and is an effective way to help as many people as possible. Think about it. Many of us business owners got into business to help as many people as possible, because we are the expert at whatever it is that we do.

Blogging is about adding value to what you do. I’m not talking about documenting my morning cup of hot chocolate, but when you share your knowledge and expertise, it shows that you care for the people reading your blog, even if they never spend a cent with you!

2. Blogging keeps people coming back for more

When I think about the websites I visit most often, it’s the websites that get updated the most often (like news sites) that come to mind first. Why? Because there’s always something new of value to look at. That’s not just awesome for traffic to your website, but also for branding purposes. How many times do your clients get exposed to your brand (or your competitor’s brand) before they’re ready to buy from you? Blogging is a great way to keep that exposure going, while giving them something for free (and let’s face it, we all love something for nothing, one of the best things about the internet in my mind).

3. Blogging is amazing for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Ok, so this is one of the drier reasons, but that’s what makes it one of the awesome ones! There was a time when having a business website was all that you needed to get new clients, but these days, all your best competitors all have websites too. Blogging is not only a great point of difference between you and your competitors, but it also has a massive impact on your Google rankings. The past 2-3 years have seen an increasing focus on websites that have regularly updated content in Google’s rankings. Why? Because those websites are the ones people love to visit! Add in Google Authorship (where your picture turns up next to your blog post in Google search results) and you can really stand out from the crowd.

So this year, my commitment to you is to start sharing my knowledge and experience. I’ve spent years in the print and design industry, absorbing all the different marketing strategies that exist. Now I want to help you grow your business.
